How does it work?

Download or app - Register and create your player profile - Pick the match that suits your schedule - Show up and play! We take care of the rest! the fields, the balls, the bibs. All of it. After signing up, whenever you want to play, just peruse our match schedule, pick and play!

Our MatchDay App is available both on iOS and Android platforms, as soon as February 2023!

What if too few people show up?

We will ensure that there is an adequate minimum registrations for each game. If for some reason we do not reach the minimum registrations, we will cancel the match and generate a refund, resulting in extra credits within your MatchDay profile or a refund to your payment method.

What do I need to bring/wear?

Just you and your boots! For each match, in the match description, there will be recommended footwear. Turfs will always be allowed, but we encourage you to wear cleats as well. Mostly, bring a good attitude and your competitive spirit. During your match registration you will be designated to the light or dark team. Brining one of each is always wise. However, we will always have bibs available as well.

What if I have to cancel?

Cancellations are part of life. Things happen. This is meant to be at your convenience. However, we must preserve the playing conditions for the other players as well. Therefore, if you cancel 24 hours before your match, you will receive a full refund and/or opportunity to reschedule. After the 24 hour period you will be charged the full amount, unless a wait list participant is able to take your spot.
Most important for us, if you are not going to attend, please let us know as soon as you do and we will try to find a replacement. Saving you money and preserving best playing conditions

Do I have to have soccer experience to come play?

Our objective at MatchDay is to open soccer to everyone who wants to play, whenever they want to play! Every player is going to start with a self-rating, to communicate to the player community their level of experience. You can use this rating to find matches with folks at a similar level, or, if you desire improvement, look for more experienced matches. As our player community grows, so will the match filters. Soon, you will be able to choose between over 30, co-ed, female, premier, and youth specific matches.

Is there a referee?

At MatchDay games we won't have a referee, but each of our games will have a Match Manager. Our matches are self-regulated. The Match Manager will be in charge of welcoming all the players, dividing and organizing the teams, as well as keeping track of goals for each team / player throughout the game. In the instance a dispute can’t be resolved between the two teams, the Match Manager will step in to help resolve the situation fairly and amicably.

How long is the match?

Our matches will have a duration of 55 minutes. For each match we will have a call up time for all the players to arrive, and we will give everyone 10 - 15 minutes to warm up before Kick off. Once the game starts, it will have a duration of 55 minutes.

Who plays goalkeeper?

Everyone. At MatchDay, each player will do a shift in goal, and be able to take advantage of this time to rest. For example, if it's an 8 v 8 game, every player will play 7 minutes as goalkeeper. You may select your rotation order in the app or it will be assigned to you by the app or Match Manager. We encourage the more fit crowd to take a shift early or late in the match and those working on their fitness to take a keeper shift near the middle of the match. A halftime of sorts for those of us working our way to match fitness.

How do I choose my position?

We encourage a 3-2-1 formation in 7v7 and a 3-3-1 formation in 8v8 matches. Remember, each player will also play a shift in goal. This means each position will be open at one point or the other. We encourage players to be open and versatile but also welcome you to volunteer to play the position you prefer. Within the MatchDay App you can pick your preferred position, and this information will be used by our Match Managers to divide the team and determine positions for each player and team. We want everyone to enjoy their experience as much as possible but it is pickup, afterall. You may have to be open to other positions depending on the group you are playing with.

What if it rains?

Just like in football, if it rains without lighting, the games will remain active. If a thunderstorm is set to affect the game, the match will be canceled and the money refunded as App Credits.

Is there a halftime?

No, there is no official halftime. Instead of having a halftime, we encourage players to use their shift in goal as their break from play. If a player is feeling tired before his rotation in goal, he can swap with the current goalkeeper and get some rest.

How do I get a refund?

If you have to cancel a booked match, no problem. If it is more than 24 hours prior to kickoff, you will receive a refund to the payment method used to book the match. If it is within 24 hours and you know you won’t make it, please let us know and we will try to find a replacement or use the waitlist. If we get the spot filled, we will still issue the refund. If not, you will be charged the full price of the match.

Can I invite my friends?

Of course, and please do! Upon completing your match registration, you will be given the opportunity to share the link to your match. If you decide to share it later, the match link will be available within your reservation/match ticket. One of MatchDay´s main goal is to create a community around soccer. We will be encouraging you to invite as many friends as possible!

How is this different from any other pickup concept?

At MatchDay we pride ourselves on providing a premier pickup experience. That means no astroturfed parking lots, no backyards, full or half pitches that are well maintained, ease of finding the competition level you seek, and cutting edge product integrity concepts.

How do I find my highlights?

Your highlights will be made available after each match and you will have access to them for 48 hours following the match.
